    1. Your plants need to be well hydrated and nourished; water them trying to maintain the same routine, i.e., every 7 days. Always feed them with a weak solution of fertilizer, the commonly called “weekly weakly” routine, using half of the dose recommended on the label of your fert.

    2. Inspect them regularly to detect posible diseases early.  Don’t forget to check the underside of the leaves.

    3. Keep pollinators away! If a bee, a bird, a bat (yes, they work at night!), or any other pollinator touches the flowers, they will wither almost immediately.

    4. Keep your pots far way from your fruit bowl.  Ethanol gas from fruits’ maturing process will wither your flowers.

    5. Pollutants like cigaret smoke, gasoline fumes or paint fumes will also damage your flowers.

    6. Be careful and avoid radical temperature changes. If you are using home heating or AC, place your plants away from the vents; this hotter or colder air stresses your orchids, sometimes so hard that they can be killed.  Besides, AC air always carries fungal pathogens that fly across the room and can land in your plants promoting infections; provide very good air movement.

    7. If you place a heater during the cold months, keep your orchid at least 10 feet away and increase relative humidity.  This kind of heat is very dry and can dehydrate your plant.
